Traditionally the guest has been left to control their room micro environment. Enter guest room automation systems. These systems control the room physical variables automatically and they not ensure automatic comfort for the guest but also they will help in saving the electricity bills for your hotel establishment. Using interconnected door sensors, thermostats and infrared detectors, a given system can tell whether a guest is in a room and aptly adjust the thermostat without the intervention of the staff. These systems are helping revolutionize the way hotels manage their energy consumption.
Amongst these revolutionizing guest room control systems are Honeywell Inncom, Legrand’s Guest Room Management system and Lutron’s MyRoom. These systems automatically control the room temperature, light and shade. Settings can either be adjusted in the room by the guest or centrally via the hotel management system.
For example, Small sensors on each guest door will monitor when doors open and close, while software and other tiny sensors constantly scan the room for motion and heat. If a guest is in the room, the system lets the guest set the thermostat. But once the sensors determine that the guest is gone, systems computerized thermostat automatically resets the room temperature to the hotel manager’s preferred setting. When the guest checks out of the room, the thermostat goes back to a predetermined setting that is six or seven degrees higher or lower. You don’t have to push a button. The system’s inner workings are invisible to guests, but the savings can be substantial.
These systems can seamlessly be integrated in the hotel’s property management system. ‘Save energy seamlessly’. That is the rallying call.
Remote Control

The power in the room is turned on when the guest slots the key card into the wall mounted key card switch. The welcome mode can, for example:
– turn the lights on
– open the curtains
– set the thermostat to comfort mode

With a remote control, the guest can control several functions with a single touch. Four different scenes can be created in order to adapt the room atmosphere to specific situations, like watching TV, working, relaxing, etc.Some of the more advanced systems have more functionality. These have sensors which can automatically turn on lights, shut or open drapes, lower the minibar temperature, and turn on music and fireplaces as soon as the well-heeled guest checks in at the front desk.
